Class Descriptions

Hatha Yoga

Experience traditional yoga postures with a detailed, systematic approach to bring your mind and body awareness into alignment with your self. Sort of a welcome home for the body and mind. You'll notice your outer layers moving deeper inward, your inner layers expanding outward. And a general sense of bliss may follow. *Beginners and all levels welcome.

Iyengar Yoga

Though it may sound odd and slightly complicated, Iyengar Yoga is great for beginners and it’s our passion at Austin Yoga Tree. Our Iyengar teachers help beginners and seasoned yoga students understand each pose, or asana, by providing clear verbal instruction with a focus on proper alignment. You’ll not only practice yoga but also build a foundational understanding of each pose. For this reason, you’ll often find AYT teachers in class right beside you enjoying their own personal practice. Some of the poses you can expect in an Iyengar class are Mountain Pose, Triangle Pose, and Downward-Facing Dog (or Down Dog). Props are your friends in this class - blocks, bolsters, blankets, and even the Yoga Wall come in handy.

In the words of B.K.S. Iyengar: "It is through the alignment of the body that I discovered the alignment of my mind, self, and intelligence." *Beginners and all levels welcome.

Vinyasa Flow

Let’s get moving...and get a little sweat worked up too. Our Vinyasa Flow classes focus on uniting your body with your breath as you flow from one pose to the next. Linking the breath with the physical postures is where the magic happens! Students are often instructed to inhale with one pose and exhale with the next, moving (or flowing!) through a sequence of poses back-to-back. These sequences will help increase flexibility, strengthen and tone muscles, and allow you to tune into your body’s own rhythm. Our creative and dynamic Vinyasa classes move at a slightly faster pace than some of Hatha or Iyengar styles. *Beginners and all levels welcome.

Vinyasa Flow
w/Weights

Get your heart, muscles and mind ready for this fun and energizing class incorporating light weights and fitness into a foundational yoga flow. You can expect to build strength, tone, create stamina, and flexibility in all major muscle groups. The class ends with a traditional savasana to balance out your efforts and get you ready for the rest of your day.  It's the perfect all in one mind, body, spirit workout!

Restorative Yoga

Restorative yoga class is like going to the gas station to fill up your tank (or plugging in, if you have an electric car). If you keep going and going and going, you'll eventually run out of energy! Restoratives fill you back up. In our Restorative Yoga class, you'll be supported with props so your body can fully release, as the vibrating sounds of the singing bowls help to heal your body and soul.

Beginners and all levels welcome!

 Yoga Wall

Based on the Iyengar method, Yoga Wall classes are great for beginners and advanced yogis. This vertical tool creates space for overcoming obstacles to achieving proper alignment and gaining a deeper understanding of yoga poses. Your AYT instructor will guide you through how to make friends with the Yoga Wall using straps and harness attachments. It will truly be your biggest support allowing you to use gravity to your advantage. If you’re the tiniest bit curious, just come and play! Little known fact...The AYT Yoga Wall is a rare find. It’s only one of two in all of Austin. *Beginners and all levels welcome.

Meditation

We live in difficult times and sometimes it can seem overwhelming to try to cope with all that is coming at us so quickly. How would it feel to be able to step away from the swirl of stress and just relax and breathe for a little while? Pretty good right? What if you could learn to do this for yourself in a few short classes? Even better! :)

These classes will cover a variety of meditation practices, and allow you to find what truly resonates with you to bring you into a place of personal peace and balance. Each week, we’ll spend a few minutes learning about the technique and then practice it together followed by a short Q&A session.

We want you to have the basic tools to begin your own meditation practice and the support and space to ask questions and grow your practice. Come join us and let’s learn together!

Pranayama

In Pranayama is the practice of controlling the Breath. Breath is considered the Life Force of the body.

Pranayama is one of the most powerful of yoga practices, creating a new pathway for deeper investigation into the self.

"Breath is the king of the mind." ~ BKS Iyengar.
